  • textINSIDE THE HOME
  • sticky-yellowThe house is not small, but it is cramped. It has 3 rooms--one immediately on your right, and two on the left. On your far right, there is a small woodstove surrounded by two couches. In the corner, a dining table is broken in half. A pot boils atop the woodstove, its lid jumping up & down as liquid bubbles out of the sides. The trail of footprints, a mix of blood & snow, lead directly to the left, into a bedroom. They lead to a wardrobe, full of women's clothing. It appears half-full--you don't know what was in here at first, but its clear some things are missing. A jewelry box lies empty on one shelf of the closet, and one of the lower drawers lies empty on the floor, pulled completely out.
  • sticky-yellowThe book is open on the 53rd page (Percy Shelley's OZYMANDIAS), a pencil used in place of a bookmark. It's oddly fitting. An overzealous, prideful oppressor shattered on the ground, in both cases. Art imitates life, no? As you open the book from it's beginning, the ownership page provides the initials 'L.F.' surrounded by intricuit drawings of nature scenes--some natural, some decidedly abstract. The rear pages--empty, initially--share the same art, though one page stands out in particular. It shows a sketched portrait of a small, wiry woman dressed in fine clothing. 'Dee' is written on the top left in a bouncy, neat handwriting, same as the initials in the front of the book.
  • sticky-redSomething seemed out of place amidst the things she took, I couldn't put my finger on it. May go back and look again.
